‍‍Alpha Lambda Delta seeks a visionary, collaborative, and mission-driven Executive Director to lead one of the nation's premier honor societies recognizing academic achievement during the first year of higher education.

Founded in 1924 at the University of Illinois, Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) has grown into a respected organization with more than 400 chapters and over 23,000 new initiates annually. The Society supports student success and leadership development through scholarships, fellowships, study abroad awards, and its annual Leadership Conference. ‍

The Executive Director serves as the chief administrative officer of the Society and works closely with the Board of Directors to advance ALD's mission, strengthen chapter engagement, support organizational growth, and ensure long-term sustainability. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a distinguished organization with a century-long legacy while helping shape its future impact on students and higher education.

The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organization while also fostering collaborative relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. The role requires the ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, abilities, identities, and experiences, as well as with institutions of varying sizes, missions, and organizational structures.

About Alpha Lambda Delta
The purpose of Alpha Lambda Delta is to encourage and recognize superior academic achievement among students in their first year of study in institutions of higher education.

ALD operates as a fully remote organization serving members, chapter advisors, and institutions across the United States and abroad. Headquarters are currently based in Fairport, New York, although all staff work remotely.

The professional staff includes:

  • Executive Director

  • Director of Communications and Chapter Engagement

  • Director of Operations

  • Project Coordinator

Position Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors through the President, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, financial stewardship, and growth of Alpha Lambda Delta. The Executive Director leads a remote staff team, supports volunteer leadership, manages organizational resources, oversees chapter and membership services, and represents the Society within higher education and professional associations. Working collaboratively with the Board, the Executive Director helps establish and implement strategic priorities that advance the mission and strengthen the Society's impact.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $110,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This position is exempt and not eligible for overtime compensation.

Work Location and Travel
This is a fully remote position. Candidates must be based in the United States and legally authorized to work in the US. Candidates must maintain a professional home office environment with reliable high-speed internet access. Travel is required for Board meetings, conferences, chapter visits, and other organizational activities.

Leadership Transition Opportunity
The Society anticipates selecting its next Executive Director by April 2027. The successful candidate will be expected to attend the June 23-27, 2027 Board of Directors meeting to facilitate a smooth leadership transition. The anticipated employment start date is between July 1 and September 1, 2027, although an alternative start date may be negotiated. The current Executive Director intends to remain through August 2027 to help ensure continuity and a successful transition.
