ALD Service Project

Join us for our ALD Service Project! It allows all chapters to be involved, and it helps you give back to YOUR community. ALD Headquarters is inviting all chapters to plan a service event focusing on this year's topic: MENTORSHIP.

Resources:

Mentor Match-Up Service Event

  • Partner with local high schools, middle schools, and other educational institutions to pair ALD members with younger students.

  • Mentorship could have an emphasis on underrepresented communities or students in need of college guidance.

  • Suggestions for activities: Essay help (specifically College essay prompts), studying habits, general college advice, leadership advice, and general tutoring.

“Letters to My Younger Self” Mentorship Story Bank

  • ALD members will write short reflections on their college journey so far.

    • Reflection thoughts: How has my journey been thus far? What would I change about my experience? What are my goals in the future, and what are the steps I can take to accomplish these goals?

  • Compile these reflections into a digital file or booklet, which can be shared with first-year students, high school students, or community programs.

DEIB in Mentorship Workshops

  • What does creating an inclusive space within mentoring look like?

  • Host a training for members to learn how to be inclusive mentors: how to affirm identities, practice active listening, etc.

Skill Swap, Mentorship Edition

  • Peer-to-Peer Mentorship between ALD members

  • Pair off members, and share learned skills with each other

    • Skills could include: study tips, resume review, cover letter review, sharing internship sources, connecting on LinkedIn, sharing creative hobbies, etc.

  • This encourages mentorship in equity, not just a traditional mentee-to-mentor relationship, as each person has the opportunity to be both the mentee and the mentor.

Peer Coaching Pods

  • Small groups meet regularly to support each other’s goals and challenges.

Academic & Peer Support

  • Homework Help Hubs: Members mentor younger students in core subjects during after-school sessions.

  • College Prep Clinics: Host workshops on applications, essays, and financial aid—mentors guide attendees through each step.

  • Study Buddy Matchups: Pair members with local students for ongoing academic support and encouragement.

Empowerment & Identity

  • First-Gen Student Panels: Mentors share their journeys and offer guidance to first-generation college-bound students.

  • Confidence Coaching Circles: Small groups focus on self-esteem, public speaking, and leadership skills.

  • Cultural Mentorship Exchanges: Celebrate diversity by pairing mentors and mentees across backgrounds to share traditions and stories.

Community Engagement

  • Mentor-Led Service Projects: Pairs or groups plan and execute a community service initiative together (e.g., park cleanups, food drives).

  • Intergenerational Mentoring: Partner with senior centers or youth organizations for cross-age mentorship.

  • Digital Literacy Mentoring: Teach tech skills to underserved populations—mentors guide participants through basic computer use, email, and online safety.
