The ALD Well-Being Experience: Denmark 2027

Explore a culture where well-being, community, and happiness are a way of life.

Imagine spending ten days in one of the world's happiest countries, discovering how Danish culture, education, sustainability, and the philosophy of hygge (hoo-gah) create stronger communities and healthier lifestyles.

This isn't simply a trip abroad. It's an opportunity to explore how intentional living, meaningful relationships, and community-centered leadership can enhance your own well-being while preparing you to create healthier, more connected campus communities.

Today's college students face unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, and burnout. While support services remain essential, there is growing recognition that well-being is also shaped by everyday habits, meaningful relationships, a sense of belonging, and cultures that encourage balance and connection. This trip will highlight a broader perspective, emphasizing lifestyle practices that promote mental and social well-being alongside traditional support systems. You’ll discover new ways to lead, build community, and foster well-being on your own campus.

Why Denmark?

Denmark consistently ranks among the happiest countries in the world and is recognized for its commitment to quality of life, sustainability, education, and social connection.

During this experience, you'll explore questions such as:

  • What contributes to a life of purpose and fulfillment?

  • How does culture influence happiness and well-being?

  • What can student leaders learn from Danish approaches to collaboration and balance?

  • How can we create more connected and supportive campus communities?

What You'll Experience

Participants will:

  • Explore Copenhagen and other historic Danish communities

  • Experience Danish traditions and the philosophy of hygge

  • Learn about sustainability and active living

  • Visit cultural landmarks and museums

  • Participate in leadership reflections and group discussions

  • Complete interactive challenges focused on physical, intellectual, and social well-being

  • Build lasting friendships with ALD members from across the country

Every day combines exploration, learning, and personal reflection.

What is Hygge?

Pronounced "hoo-gah," hygge is a Danish concept centered on comfort, connection, gratitude, and being fully present with others. It's less about a place and more about creating meaningful moments together.

Throughout the program, you'll experience the principles of hygge through shared meals, outdoor activities, conversations, and cultural experiences that encourage slowing down and appreciating everyday life.

Bring the Experience Home

Denmark 2027 doesn't end when you return home.

Participants will develop ideas for bringing Danish-inspired leadership and well-being practices back to their own campuses through Alpha Lambda Delta chapters and other student organizations.
