Student Spotlights

Christina Chen – Alpha Lambda Delta Fellowship Winner

University of Southern California

Christina has been a member of ALD since 2006 at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.  Completing a double-major in Philosophy and Neuroscience in 2010, Christina applied for an ALD Fellowship to help fund her professional studies in law school.  Christina’s ALD Fellowship is just one of many awards she’s received in her higher-education career – you’ll also find her name on the lists of USC Trustee Scholars, Gold Family Scholarship recipients, and AP Scholars with Distinction.

Christina writes: “My active involvement in ALD has enabled me to develop meaningful and fulfilling friendships with my equally-inspired (and inspring!) peers… I realize that I met many of my closest college friends during my freshman year, through ALD events.”

Ashley Zumwalt – Alpha Lambda Delta Trow Scholarship Winner

University of Oklahoma

As a student studying petroleum engineering at the University of Oklahoma, Ashley Zumwalt was initiated into ALD in 2009.  In addition to completing a full-time internship with a major US oil company, serving as her chapter’s Historian, and maintaining her exceptional academic performance, Ashley applied for and won an ALD Jo Anne Trow Scholarship in 2010.  Some of Ashley’s other honors include OU President’s Awards for Outstanding Freshmen, President’s Award for Outstanding Sophomores, Outstanding Panhellenic Scholarship, and she’s also been named as a BP Inspire Scholar.

What does ALD mean to Ashley?  “ALD has not only introduced me to peers that I hold in high esteem, but has also been a guiding light for information regarding scholarships, academic policies, and campus events.  Each member of our honor society is unique in their own respect and possesses talents from which we can all benefit.”

Matthew DuWaldt – Alpha Lambda Delta Stemler Scholarship Winner

Kalamazoo College

When he’s not studying at the University of Aberdeen, Matthew DuWaldt spends his time being an exceptional student at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, MI.  Looking forward to his fall/winter studies in Aberdeen, Scotland, in late 2010-early 2011 Matthew applied for one of ALD’s Stemler Undergraduate Scholarships and received $1,000 to help fund his travels and studies!  A consistent resident of the Dean’s List, Matthew has also taken home a Harlow Endowment Scholarship, Irene and S. Kyle Morris Prize from Kalamazoo’s Dept. of Economics and Business, and a Kalamazoo College Honors Scholarship.

According to Matthew, “Alpha Lambda Delta has equipped me with a framework that holds me to the highest expectations, so that I continue to strive for academic achievement… I have come to realize the potential we have to influence society through the campus, community, and national levels with our abilities in not just academia, but leadership as well.”
