Here are a few things you may want to discuss with your membership at your first meeting:

1. Fall Leadership Workshop in October.  Each year, 200 Alpha Lambda Deltans from around the country meet to share their ideas and make new friends.  The Workshop is very affordable (registration is usually between $20 and $40), and National ALD pays for all meals and all hotel rooms for the event.  Space is limited, and available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Chapters are allowed to send three representatives each (two students and an advisor) - so think about attending the Workshop early and sign up as soon as registration opens (usually early-mid August).  For more details, click here!
2. Alpha Lambda Delta Items for Sale
   • T-shirts
   • Caps
   • Honor Cords - Check with your campus to see if there is a policy regarding wearing honor cords at commencement.  The chapter may want to use selling honor cords to graduating ALD members as a fund raiser.  Honor cords cost $8.50, but can be ordered in quantities of 10 or more for $6.50 each.
   • Initiation Candles and insignia cloths
3. Service & Awareness Month -
   The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta has designated November to be a Service & Awareness month for chapters.  Chapters are encouraged to plan a service project for their campus, first year students, or the community and to promote awareness of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society to the campus community.
4. Goal Setting for the Upcoming Year
   • Do we want to win the Order of the Torch award?  If so, what goals should we set for our chapter?
   • Do we want to submit an article for The Flame?  Deadline is October 31.
   • Student Council Member-at-Large - Does anyone from our chapter want to run for a national office?  Deadline is December 1.
   • Outstanding Adviser Award - If your chapter adviser has been doing a great job, consider nominating her or him for the Outstanding Adviser of the Year award.  The deadline is February 15.
   • There are 10 $1,000 Stemler Study Abroad Scholarships available.  Discuss eligibility, the selection process, and deadlines. 
   • There are 35 $1000 Trow Undergraduate Scholarships available!  Discuss eligibility, the selection process, deadlines.  Chapter nominees are due to the National Office by April 1.
   • Fellowship Advertisements - ALD awards 23 graduate fellowships, ranging from $7500 to $3000.  How do we get the word out to the graduating ALD members?
   • Web site - National Alpha Lambda Delta has a web site - www.nationalald.org.  Does our chapter want to develop a web site for chapter news and link it to the National site?
   • Lampadia Web Site Competition - The Lampadia Award will undergo some changes in 2010 - look for more info from the National Office in September!
